Mounds View City Council April 14, 2003 <br />Regular Meeting Page 8 <br /> <br />Interim City Administrator Ericson indicated this item is before Council because with the two <br />open positions in the Administration department Desaree Crane has been providing unbelievable <br />levels of support working outside of her job classification. He then indicated Staff is seeking <br />approval to provide additional compensation for the work that is outside her job classification <br />and noted that Ms. Crane is handling more than 75% of the duties formerly handled by Ms. Reed. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Stigney. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 5977, a <br />Resolution Authorizing Additional Compensation for Administrative Assistant Desaree Crane <br />for Working Outside of Job Classification. <br />Council Member Marty said he would like to commend Ms. Crane publicly for helping keep the <br />City running as efficiently as it is. He then said that Mr. Ericson is serving as three employees <br />and Ms. Crane is assisting him. He further commented that he has seen all City employees <br />pitching in to cover duties and pick up the slack from the positions that are open and thanked <br />them for doing so. <br />Interim City Administrator Ericson thanked Council for the comments and thanked all Staff <br />members for the willingness to go above and beyond their job responsibilities to help out. <br />Ayes - 5 Nays - 0 Motion carried. <br />G. Resolution 5982, Authorizing the Expenditure of Funds for Employee Service <br />Award Certificates Consistent with Resolution 5617. <br />Interim City Administrator Ericson indicated that Resolution 5617 was approved in October of <br />2001 but has not been implemented. He then indicated that implementing the Ordinance as <br />approved would exclude 6 employees from service awards. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Marty/Quick. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 5982, a <br />Resolution Authorizing the Expenditure of Funds for Employee Service Award Certificates <br />Consistent with Resolution 5617 as Amended to Include the 6 Previously Excluded Employees. <br />Council Member Stigney indicated he has an issue with this Resolution as there is no cap on the <br />certificate amount. He then said that one employee will get a certificate for $125.00 and he <br />would prefer that there be a cap of $50.00. <br />Council Member Marty indicated that this Resolution was approved and not implemented. He <br />then said Council could consider setting a cap of $50.00 going forward. <br />Council Member Quick commented that setting a cap of $50.00 would make later years of <br />service not as valuable as the first years. <br />Council Member Stigney indicated he would like to know what other cities are doing. <br />
