Mounds View City Council February 14, 2005 <br />~ Regular Meeting Page 7 <br />• Mayor Marty stated that they had discussed this at the Y meeting, and that the system they have <br />now will accommodate this, so they were just purchasing the cameras. <br />Council Member Stigney asked if they would now have eight cameras. <br />Mayor Marty answered yes, and that it was predominantly for the purpose of providing more <br />coverage and security for the front desk area. <br />MOTION/SECOND. Stigney/Gunn. To approve Resolution 6458 Approving the Purchase of <br />Security Surveillance Cameras for the Mounds View Community Center. <br />Council Member Flaherty stated he thought this was treating the symptom and not the illness <br />basically, and he asked Chief Sommer to elaborate on the problem with the theft occurring at the <br />Community Center. <br />Chief Sommer stated that there have been a few calls, but it's not a prevalent problem. <br />Council Member Flaherty suggested the use of fake cameras if there wasn't an issue with <br />employee safety. <br />Chief Sommer stated that there is a limited number of staff for monitoring, and that additional <br />cameras would help to be able to apprehend perpetrators. <br />• Council Member Gunn stated the cameras were needed for apprehension so perpetrators would <br />get the punishment that they deserve. <br />Council Member Flaherty stated this was not budgeted into the 2005 budget, and he didn't like to <br />adjust budgets upward. <br />Ayes-5 Nays-0 Motion carried. <br />9. COUNCIL BUSINESS <br />A. 7:05 p.m. Public Hearing. Consider Updating the Capital Improvement <br />Plan and Authorizing the Future Sale of Capital Improvement Bonds for the <br />Fire Station and Equipment. <br />1. Conduct Public Hearing. <br />Finance Director Hansen stated that the Capital Improvement Plan was last adopted last summer <br />as the 2004 Long Range Finance Plan, and it was before the Council this evening to incorporate a <br />couple of changes. He stated these were primarily some changes in cost estimates for fire <br />protection and deferring some storm water projects to later years. He stated that each of the <br />projects, even though it's approved in the CIP, will come back to the Council for approval at the <br />• time it's being constructed. He stated that the second part of the public hearing is to take input <br />on the proposal to issue Capital Improvement Bonds for the purpose of building a new fire <br />
