Mounds View City Council May 9, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 3
• Brian Amundsen, 3048 Wooddale Drive, stated that an email was sent this morning to Mayor
Marty, Council Members Gunn and Thomas and City Administrator Ulrich that outlines the
financial issues and concerns, as well as their request to recognize the Residents' desires for their
neighborhood's look and feel. He noted that they asked City Administrator Ulrich to forward the
email on to Council Members Stigney and Flaherty, as she did not have their email addresses.
She assured Council that the Residents want to help solve the problem not continues to be an
impediment.
Dennis Hammes, 5511 Quincy Street stated that he has a petition to present to Council regarding
violations to the noise ordinance and problems with speeding through their neighborhood. He
presented the petition to Council and asked that they review their concerns. He indicated that
everyone who signed petition is dead set against the Medtronic proposal.
Mayor Marty acknowledged and accepted the petition stating that the City Council appreciates
the Residents time and efforts. He stated that speed enforcement issues have been included on
the agenda for the upcoming Council Work Session adding that this item would be included as
one of the issues to discuss.
Mayor Marty stated that parking restrictions and enforcement have also been included as an item
for discussion at the next Council Work Session. He referenced the increase in parking along
Quincy stating that the area in front of the school is a posted `no parking' zone during school
hours. He stated that it is apparent that people are not adhering to the restrictions and there
• doesn't appear to be much enforcement. He expressed concerns stating that the parking along
this area cuts down on the visibility and creates a more dangerous atmosphere.
David Jahnke, 8428 Eastwood Road, clarified that it is his understanding that the City took a
survey of the Residents to determine what the Residents want and asked if it is correct that the
survey results indicated that the Residents of Mounds View do not want the golf course.
Mayor Marty clarified that the question was worded `Would you support redevelopment of the
golf course if the redevelopment is paid out of the General Fund'. He stated that based on the
answers the results showed that the Residents did not want the golf course.
City Administrator Ulrich stated that three questions were posed in the survey. He reviewed the
questions and clarified the results with the Council.
Mr. Jahnke clarified that even if there is funding available, the majority of people do not want
golf course. He noted that out of all three questions, none of the responses favored the golf
course.
Mayor Marty confirmed that the results show that the Residents are not in favor of the golf
course if the golf course is subsidized from the General Fund. He noted that this would not be
the case with negotiations and a contract with Clear Channel, as they would pay off and cover the
funds.
