Mounds View City Council May 9, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 4
• Mr. Jahnke clarified the survey questions asked stating that the question he is asking is whether
the Citizens of Mounds View want the golf course or not. He acknowledged the clarifications
received on the survey results stating that he still has not gotten an answer to his question, is it
true that the Citizens of Mounds View do not want the golf course.
Council Member Flaherty explained that it all depends on the variables. He stated that the results
show that if the funds for the redevelopment come from the Residents they do not want the
redevelopment and if the funds do not come out of the Residents pockets 37-percent would want
the redevelopment, half of the respondents want to remove it and the other half want to leave it.
(golf course)
Mr. Jahnke stated that the results show that 63-percent of the Residents do not want it and
expressed concerns that the questions on the survey were not very clear. He clarified that he is
not against the golf course- itself noting that he plans to review the tape. He stated that the results
of the survey indicate that the Citizens of Mounds View, across the board, do not want the golf
course. He acknowledged that this is a hard decision and suggested that Council base their
decisions on the results of the survey.
Mayor Marty agreed stating that the survey does give the Council an idea of what the Citizens
want and do not want. He stated that he trusts that the Council would do what the Citizens say.
He stated that the results are public record and copies are available for review. He assured Mr.
Jahnke that Council bases their decisions on all of the information that is provided to them on an
issue.
Mr. Jahnke stated that he would like a poll of the Council to determine who would go with the
survey results and who wouldn't. He stated that this would be a big test to see if the Mayor and
the Council actually listen to the Citizens or not.
Mayor Marty assured Mr. Jahnke that he and the Council take their position and decisions very
seriously. He acknowledged that he is charged with making the best decision for the City and
that he talks with various cities, realtors, and accountants, in order to get all of the facts before
making his final decision on an issue. He stated that there are many factors involved besides
money and this is something that the City Council should be able to get a handle on.
6. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS
A. Proclamation -Building Safety Week -May 8 -14, 2005
Mayor Marty read the Proclamation declaring the week of May 8 - 14, 2005 as Building Safety
Week 2005.
