Mounds View City Council July 25, 2005 <br />Regular Meeting Page 19 <br />• Director Ericson stated that this resolution provides clarification on the amount the City can <br />charge for photocopies and also incorporates language for fireworks licenses. He stated that this <br />would be a business license for businesses that only sell fireworks or businesses that sell <br />fireworks in addition to other retail. <br />Council Member Stigney referenced the rental fee and asked Staff to clarify if the rental fee is <br />supposed to bring in a profit or just pay for the maintenance. <br />Mayor Marty stated that the fee schedule could be amended at any time. <br />Director Ericson suggested including this item on the August 4~' work session agenda as an item <br />for discussion. <br />MOTION/SECOND. Thomas/Flaherty. To Approve Resolution 6584 Revising the 2005 Fee <br />Schedule and waive the reading. <br />Ayes-5 Nays-0 Motion carried. <br />E. Consider Resolution 6567, Appointing Peter Berling to the Position of Police <br />Officer. <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that this resolution is to hire an officer for a current vacancy as a <br />• result of a retirement. He stated. that the Police Civil Service Commission certified an eligibility <br />list noting that the number one candidate is Peter Bening. He stated that Mr. Berling has <br />completed all of the required testing procedures for the position including a background <br />investigation, physical and psychological examination and a physical agility testing. He stated <br />that Mr. Berling is a recent graduate of Winona State University and Staff recommends that Mr. <br />Berling be appointed to the position effective August 1, 2005 at a step one rate of pay as defined <br />by the Law Enforcement Labor Services Contract. <br />Council Member Stigney asked if the Police Civil Service Commission made the <br />recommendation. <br />Police Chief Sommer explained that the Police Civil Service Commission recommended three <br />candidates and that Mr. Berling was the first of the three candidates listed in their <br />recommendation. <br />Council Member Flaherty asked if Mr. Berling has any prior experience as a Police Officer. <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that this is Mr. Berlings first position as a Police Officer. <br />Council Member Stigney asked when Mr. Berling would be eligible for wage progressions to <br />Step 2 and Step 3. <br />• Police Chief Sommer explained that per the Law Enforcement Labor Services Contract Mr. <br />
