Mounds View City Council September 26, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 36
• 5. Update of the NW Area Library Taskforce
Director Ericson provided an update on the Northwest Area Library Taskforce meeting of
September 15, 2005. He advised that several Mounds View, Arden Hills, and New Brighton
residents were in attendance. He indicated he had presented information on the community and
several residents asked what the City's position would be or is with regard to the Mounds View
Branch Library - to keep it open or have a more regional based library system.
Director Ericson stated he explained to everyone in attendance that the City would work with the
Library Board and Task Force. However, the Council supports the Mounds View Branch Library
and would like to see it remain in place. Another meeting is scheduled on September 28, 2005,
at the New Brighton Family Service Center at 7 p.m. He stated it would be good to have City
representation at that meeting.
6. National Association of Industrial and Office Properties Survey
Director Ericson distributed information on the survey from the National Association of
Industrial and Office Properties of metro cities. The survey asked this question: "What would it
take in local fees and processing time to develop this building." Seventy-nine cities responded
and surprisingly, for the most part, Mounds View is where other communities are with regard to
fees in building and plan review. In other areas, Mounds View is very far below what other cities
are charging. He stated this survey is enlightening and if he has time he will provide a summary
• of where Mounds View ranks when compared to the other cities.
Finance Director Beers stated he attended an MGFOA seminar on fees and their caution was the
fees are to be based on the cost of the service, not what other cities are charging.
C. Reports of City Attorney
Nothing to report.
12. Nezt Council Work Session: (Mounds View City Hall) Monday, October 3, 2005
Negt Council Meeting: (New Brighton City Hall) Monday, October 10, 2005
13. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting recessed to Executive Session to consider acquisition of property known as Red
Oak Estates #3 at 10:53 p.m.
Transcribed and recorded by:
Carla Wirth
• Timesaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.
