Mounds View City Council August 28, 2006
Regular Meeting Page 20
proposal and discussed further in a work session. Mayor Marty suggested the presentation table
be included in the City Hall rehabilitation project and not be removed from the resolution.
Councilmember Stigney asked about the podium that is included and that he would like a better
description about where the podium is coming from and what it is. He suggested that City
residents be allowed to bid for such items. He asked where the power will come from for the
power outlet in the new podium.
Communications Coordinator Blackford replied a cord would be run to the existing outlet. He
also mentioned that there is sales tax on labor included in the bid and he does not believe labor
should be taxed. Finance Director Beer stated that some labor is taxed.
Councilmember Stigney asked Communications Coordinator Blackford to look into the item.
Councilmember Stigney also asked about the audio amplifier to drive two speakers. He
questioned the need fora 100-watt amplifier. He also asked about $8,411 expense for
installation.
Communications Coordinator Blackford stated that she originally requested two controllers so
either person, at the presentation table or in the back, could have control over the video cameras.
Councilmember Thomas noted that there is still a quote in the proposal for the installation of the
presentation table.
Councilmember Stigney stated there are several places where expenses could be cut and that he
does not support the resolution. He also noted his support for Alpha Video, but added that the
installation and labor is excessive.
Councilmember Stigney stated he thinks that all of the expenses should come out of the cable
fund. He asked about the projection for future expenditures. Communications Coordinator
Blackford replied that she had originally planned to request the non-linear editing system, but
that request will not be made in 2007.
Councilmember Stigney stated he believes half of the expenses could be cut.
Councilmember Thomas stated that Alpha is the only place that can install everything the City
needs at once. She stated the City is in a bind because they need to have this equipment installed.
She stated she is troubled by the installation costs, particularly of the podium.
Councilmember Gunn suggested discussing the issue at the work session.
MOTION/SECOND: FLAHERTY/GUNK. To waive the reading and adopt Resolution 6927
Approving Authorization to Purchase Cable Equipment, removing cables and materials for the
installation of the presentation table for $984, cables and materials for installation of the hallway
television for $134, installation and labor for the presentation table for $1023, installation and
