Reports of Mayor and Council
Mayor Marty asked Council to discuss overage pay for the employees that are picking up extra
duties to cover for the absence of the department head in public works. Staff will review and
make a recommendation.
Mayor Marry indicated that he discussed morale issues with staff, and Resolution 5555 is
hanging over their heads. He then said that if it were used with the intent, it would be fine, but
that Resolution was grossly misused in the past, and it has not helped the morale. He then said
that he would like to discuss repealing the Resolution.
Mayor Marty said that he would like to pledge to Staff to do what he can for morale, and he
thinks that this was used as a "billy club" in the past, and Staff has a real concern with this
Resolution.
Council asked that it be added to a work session for discussion.
Mayor Marty said that in reading the Pioneer Press, the City of Maplewood has been receiving a
lot of press, regarding City of Maplewood and litigation that is going on. He then said that the
League of Minnesota Cities almost cancelled Maplewood's insurance coverage, but did not.
However, they raised the deductible from $50,000 per incident to $200,000 per incident.
Clerk-Administrator Ericson indicated that there have been a number of lawsuits in Afton, and
Staff is wondering how that impacts everyone else's insurance rates because they do not follow
proper procedures. He then agreed to check with the League to see what they have to say about
this.
Mayor Marty noted that the Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for April 19, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to
Noon.
