-2-
Based on a discussion: of these complaints with City Attorney
Meyers, the following action has been. or will be taken by City
staff:
1. The Police Department has been made aware of these complaints
and instructed to step up our patrolling efforts in that area
to determine the severity of the problem and enforce the laws
of the City to a greater extent. The Police Department, as
previously stated, has also set up a meeting with the complaining
residents to solicit their support and assistance in this
effort.
2. The Building Inspections Department has previously completed
inspections on all of these buildings and been instructed to
perform additional inspections on all of these structures to
determine what additional violations of our (lousing Code or
other City Codes might exist and enforce these Codes to their
fullest extent.
3. City Attorney Meyers has recommended that, with the approval
of the Council, this office meet with all owners of these
buildings in a joint meeting to advise them of the complaints _
that we are receiving from residents in the area and solicit
their cooperation in resolving the problems being experienced
by residents of the neighborhood.
Staff would request Council direction in the matter of setting up
a meeting with the apartment building owners and any other direction
you might feel is necessary to respond to these complaints.
DFP/pf
