W
' MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Comnission
FROM: Staff
DA1:E: August 25, 1982
RE: Lakeside Park Update
Enclosed is a copy of Resolution No. 1277 which is being proposed to the
Mounds View City Council regarding the change in status of Lakeside Park
Commission. Commissioner Oovouan will be presenting the Conuuission with
a complete update on this issue, but a quick recap of the resolution is
that it would take some of the management responsibilities away from the
Lakeside Park Commission and put them under the responsibility of the
local park and recreation departments.
The other major change of the proposed resolution is that it would pro-
pose a commission of six members consisting of two city councilmembers,
two park and recreation commission representatives and two representatives
from the city at large. The revised commission would be responsible for
meeting a minimum of three times per year during the spring, mid -summer and
fall to evaluate the current beach program.
The bdsic reason that this type of resolution was drafted by the Lakeside '
1' Park Commission is twofold.
1. The Commission currently having difficulty in establishing
and developing quorums for their monthly agenda sessions.
2. Many of the responsibilities currently mandated by the
Commission are being accomplished by the local park and
recreation departments.
Staff feels that the enclosed proposed draft resolution more accurately
reflects the needs and current service levels that are being accomplished
at the Lakeside Park Beach. Commissioner Bowman will be presenting a
more in depth report for the commissioners to review at Thursday's meeting.
J
61C
