MEMO TO: Mounds View City Council
^ i
1( ` FROM: Bruce R. Anderson, Diroor,,
Parks, Recreation and'FOteStry
DATE: January 14, 1983
RE: 1983 Tree Order
Attached is a list of recommended trees for planting in the
City's park system for the summer of 1983. The total tree
planting order for 1983 is $3,622.50, which compares to the
1983 budgeted amount of $3,885.00. As you can note, there are
two separate tree orders that staff is recommending. The
first and bulk of the tree orders are recommended to be purchased
from Cross Nursery which has been selected not only for their
low cost but also for the high quality of stock that they have
produced to the City in the past two years. The total bid
price from Cross Nursery totals $3,204.75 which compares to the
cost of $5,004.50 from Minnesota Valley Wholesale in Shakopee
and that of $3,492.75 from Bailey Nurseries in St. Paul. It
should be noted that the price from Bailey Nurseries which is
$270.00 over the recommended bid price is their 1981-82 price.
We have placed small order from Bailey Nurseries for 5 autumn
purple ash and 20 acer rubrum northwood for a total of $414.75.
The reasoning for purchasing the trees from Bailey Nurseries
is that they are a one of a kind item and they are the only
wholesaler that carries those trees in the metropolitan area.
Should you have any questions regarding the proposed tree order,
as attached, or as to the specific locations of tree planting
plans, staff will have them available for your review at Monday
evenings Council meeting. Or, you may feel free to contact
myself or the City Forester directly at 784-3055, extension #41.
BKA/sll
Attachment
cc: Mr. Rick Wriskey, City Forester
