MEMO TO: Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Clerk-Administrato . �- <br />DATE: September 22, 1983 <br />SUBJECT: ACTING POLICE CHIEF POSITION <br />Attached please find a memorandum from Acting Police Chief Timothy <br />Smith requesting compensation in the amount of $200.00 per month <br />retroactive to April 1, 1983 for his serving as Acting Police Chief <br />during our interim phase. I have given serious consideration to <br />Acting Chief Smith's request by evaluating past history of the City <br />with respect to compensation to individuals serving in additional <br />capacities while other staff positions are in a transition phase and <br />to the additional responsibilities assumed by Mr. Smith during this <br />interim period. Based upon that evaluation and advice from Finance <br />Director Don Brager that funds are available, I would recommend that <br />the Council approve additional compensation to Sergeant Smith for <br />serving as Acting Police Chief retroactive to April 1, 1983 in the <br />amount of $150.00 per month. <br />Additionally, it should be pointed out that Sergeant Smith's second <br />90 day appointment period as Acting Police Chief expires on <br />�/--�'September 31st. If the Council has not taken action with respect <br />to the hiring of a Chief at the Council Meeting on September 26th, <br />it would be necessary for you to appoint Sergeant Smith as Acting <br />Police Chief for a third 90 day period commencing on October lst. <br />Should you have any questions or require any additional information <br />with respect to either of these two items, please do not hesitate <br />to contact me. <br />DFP/pf <br />Attachment <br />
