MEMO TO: Mounds View City Council
PItOM: Bruce K. Anderson, Dir(ctc _
Parks, Iecreation and I'6 s /
UATE: October 6, 19113
III.-: Silvur View Park Grand Opening
The Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission has set Saturday,
October 29 as the grand opening date for Silver View Park. in
addition to some type of brief presentation or ceremony at Silver
View Park, the Park Board will also be kicking off the City's
leaf composting program at Ardan Park on that particular day with
a speaker, demonstration and other related activities at Ardan
Park.
Staff has met with a sub -committee from the Park Board and it
is their desire to have a brief ceremony with the Park Commission
and City Council at Silver View Park at noon on Saturday the 29th
to inaugurate the park site. Their thoughts were that we could
construct a park sign, similar to the other park signs at our
local neighborhood parks. We could then hang the official park
sign as a symbol of the opening of Silver View Park.
Unfortunately, we do not have a park sign at Silver View Park at
this time or the monies budgeted to complete such as project. We
have constructed the park signs, in house at a cost of $250.00
for materials, routing of the sign, painting and installation.
Should the City Council feel this is a project worthy of funding
or consideration, it would need to be budgeted out of the City's
contingency account. Staff feels that if this project were
approved, we could commence conscruution
Of the sign immediately
and have it ready for the hanging of the routed sign by the City
Council on Saturday, October 29.
The specific itinerary for "Park Day" on Saturday, October 29 is
as follows:
12 - 12:15 p.m. Hanging of park sign and official
ribbon cutting ceremony to designate
the grand opening of Silver View
Park.
12:15 - 1:00 p.m. Park Commission members would be on
hand to provide tours of Silver View
Park and explain the existing
facilities and future improvements
slated for Silver View.
