MEMO TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Director of Public Works/Community Development li
U l
DATE: October 12, 1903
SUBJECT: DIRECTION OF PUBLIC WORKS/COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
POSITION FOR 1984
At the September 6, 1983 Council meeting, some additional infor-
mation was requested by the Council from myself concerning
manhours expended on various activities, both for the director
and the foreman. Attached*are summaries of manhours spent through
October Sth for myself and Mr. Rardell. The attached information
was requested to assist the Council in reviewing how the supervisory
personnel was utilized and/or might be adjusted in 1984 to better
meet the objectives of the Public Works/Community Development
Department. (*Attachments will be handed out Monday night.)
The 1984 budget contains $37,828.00 spread between the general,
sewer and water funds for Director of Public Works salary and fringe
benefits. If this was based on a 2,080 hour year, it would result
in a per hour rate of $18.19. Further recognizing that the City
Personnel Code provides for 80 hours of paid vacation and 80 hours
of paid holiday leave, deducting these hours from the 2,080, results
in a net per hour cost of $19.70. In addition, the Personnel Code
provides for up to 80 hours of paid sick leave per year. Once again,
deducting these from the 2,080 hours would result in a net per hour
rate of $20.56. This is compared to the current contract rate of
$22.50 per hour. If the $37,828.00 was utilized at a $22.50 per
hour rate, this would provide up to 1,681 hours for use in the general,
sewer and water funds.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
ici/bc
