1. <br />Mayor and City Council <br />November 17, 1.983 <br />Page Three <br />able to recycle the existing bituminous material, we could prubably <br />reduce the cost of material per patch by 60 to 80 percent depending <br />on the size and type of patch. <br />As previously mentioned, staff has not been able to complete its <br />research of which machines could or might best meet Mounds View's <br />needs and, therefore, a recommendation has not been prepared for. <br />Council action. Staff would like to take this opportunity to <br />receive Council input• as to whether they feel we should pursue <br />investigation of units that could recycle existing bituminous <br />pavements. If we pursue this option, staff would have to identify <br />additional sources of monies to cover the increased cost in equipment I <br />purchase. One possible source of money would be to utilize monies <br />that were budgeted for asphalt material purchase in 1984 that might a <br />not be needed if we are able to recycle existing bituminous pavements. <br />In either case, prior to recommending to the Council a purchase, staff <br />will obtain written quotations from the suppliers and prepare a more <br />detailed equipment comparison for Council review and consideration. <br />JCJ/bc <br />
