HOT PATCH Pam... Is The Answer
Using proper patching techniques, an economical permanent patch can be produced with Hot
Patch Pete, any time of the year .. , winter, spring, summer or fall. Long term cost savings of
permanent patching eliminate the dangers and ndaled exponses caused by the pothole crisis.
Simple Step-by-step Patching
Preparing subbase
Fill with asphalt mixture
Tark Coat Application
Proper compaction is needed
Hot Patch Potholes From Scrap Material
Anytime of the Year
BEFORE: Pothole waiting to: bend
a rim, blow a lire, or cause injury
to a bicyclist.
Proper preparation is very
Important.
Cut the outline of the patch at least one foot
(0.3 m) outside the area to be patched. The
outline should be square or rectangular with
straight and vertical faces.
Tack Coat Application
The hole to be repaired should be cleaned,
the subgrade compacted and leveled as
needed, and a lack coal applied to the bob
lom and all sides.
Fill with asphalt mixture
Place the recycled material against the
edges first when filling the hole. A sufficient
amount of material should be allowed to in-
sure proper patch level after compaction.
Proper compaction is needed
When compacting the patch, overlap the
first pass and return of the compactor no
more than 6 inches (15mm); move to the
opposite side and repeat. Then proceed at
right angles to the compacted edges, over-
lapping each pass a few inches onto the
mrcompactod patch.
Hot Patch Pete keeps material uni-
formly hot ... even on cold winter
days ... because asphalt is heated at
the patch, not at a remote mix plant.
Adjustable propane burner can heat
mix to more than 300'F (149"C). First
hot malarial from chunks is available
in 6.8 minutes, depending upon chunk
size and temperature. Hot mix from
milled or cold -planed material is avail•
able in 4.5 minutes, depending upon
temperature. Fiber glass insulation
encases the mixinglheating cham•
bor—keeping the mix hot frorn patch
to patch.
AFTER: A permanent patch to
handle all kinds of traffic.
