d 3m') 4
MEMO TO: Mayor and City Council \_\
FROM: Clerk-Administratop•
DATE: November 16., 1983 II
SUBJ '1': POLICG CHIEF PERFORMANCE GOALS AND SALARY
Pursuant to Council direction, the issue of performance goals for
the Police Chief, during his one year probationary period; have
been placed on the agenda for your discussion and direction.
Attached to this memorandum are First Year Goals prepared by
staff as part of a memorandum to Mayor McCarty dated November 1,
1983, along with referenced attachments. Staff would request
Council consideration of these goals as being the basis for the
development of the performance goals you will ultimately adopt
for this position.
It was also noted by staff that the Council did not establish a
starting salary for Police Chief Ramacher. The stated salary
range for the position was $28,000 to $31,000 per year. Mr. Ramacher's
salary as Police Investigator was $29,482.18 per year. Staff would
recommend a starting salary of $30,500 per year, with the across: the
board annual adjustment being made as of January 1, 1984. Staff
—, would further recommend a $500.00 per year increase at the end of
the first six months of the probationary period if Council reviews
have determined that Mr. Ramacher is successfully performing as
Police Chief per your expectations, as well as an additional adjust-
ment to be determined at the end of the probationary period,
November 14, 1984. These salary recommendations have been discussed
with Chief Ramacher and he has indicated that they would be satis-
factory to his expectations. .
DFP/pf
Attachment
