CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW
PROPANE SURVEY SUMMARY
PAGE THREE
In answering the survey questions relating to the seven performance
factors, the respondents provided the following information:
a. Mileage - In general, the respondents experienced a
10i loss in mileage with both straight and dual fuel
systems.
b. Accelerations - Responses indicated that acceleration
improved with a straight system and is the some or
sluggish with a dual system. NOTE: Perhaps the
sluggishness is due to the ract that a dual rues
system is not completely adjusted to run well with
either fuel.
c. Odor - Odor was noticed only when the tank was being
filled and sometimes with the dual fuel system.
d. Engine Wear - Those respondents having significant
experience with propane indicated that engine wear
improved with the use of propane.
e. Frequency of Oil Change - The straight propane users
indicated they were able to extend oil use two to
three times that for gasoline, however, dual system
users found they need to change oil as often as when
they used gasoline.
f. Frequency of Tunc-Ups - As was the case with oil
changes, straight propane users extended the life of
a tune-up by two to three times the average for gaso-
line and dual fuel users continued to tune-up their
vehicles as often as they did when using gasoline.
g. Extreme Weather Conditions - The majority of those who
have had at least one winter's experience with propane
indicated that they have experienced starting difficulties
in cold weather. It was the observation of the City of
Duluth, however, that they had no greater starting problems
with propane vehicles than with gasoline vehicles.
NOTE: A determining factor might be whether these vehicles
are stored indoors or outside during the winter months and
the use of engine heaters.
All of• the respondents indicated they were having no difficulty in
obtaining a supply of propane with the average cost being 62C/gallon,
not including tax.
