ADMINISTRATIVE
. NEWSLETTER
May 29, 1984 City of Mounds View VOL. IV, NO. 9
MUNICIPAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION
On Wednesday, May 23rd the Operating Committee of the Municipal
Legislative Commission,of which I am a member met at the Plymouth
City Hall and discussed several items. These are as follows:
a) Proposals for representation: The Commission
received proposals from Larkin Hoffman,Daly &
Lindgren Ltd. for representation of the Commission
as our lobbyist and from Christopher Miller &
Company and Media Services, Inc. for public relations
services. These firms are currently under contract
with the Commission for these services and their
proposals were to continue service for the next
eighteen months. A sub -committee made up of five
members of the Operating Committee including myself
were appointed to review these proposals and submit
recommendation to the full Operating Committee for
their review and approval prior to submission to the
Board of Directors. This sub -committee will be meeting
on June 4 to review these proposals in greater detail
and discuss the need for the services of all of these
firms.
b) Appointments to a Regional Transit Board and
Metropoiitan Agencies: Tne Committee discussed in
great detail the advisability of the Municipal
Legislative Commission endorsing particular candidates
for appointment to Metropolitan -wide agencies such as
the New Regional Transit Board, Metropolitan Council,
Metropolitan Waste Control Commission, etc. and it was
the concensus of the group that any effort on the part
of the Municipal Legislative Commission to endorse
particular candidates would have a negative impact upon
our ability to maintain good relations with members of
all of these agencies and could possibly alienate members
of our own organization who are seeking appointment to
these agencies. Therefore, the Committee agreed to discuss
informally the names of individuals being considered for
appointement to such agencies in order that all members
can be fully informed of the qualifications of these
individuals so that individual members might endorse
particular candidates if it is their desire to do so,
but the Commission as a whole will take no official
position on these matters.
