MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 24,1984
PAGE THREE
7.) continued
Recommendation - This issue was part of the Local issues
negotiated during 1983 at which time the City took the
position that we pay for the schooling and licensing of
employees obtaining water and sewer operator's licenses
as well as giving them time off during working days to
attend the required schooling. It is my recommendation
that we continue to maintain this position and that we
further take the position that the possession of a water
or sewer operator license by employees assigned to the
Water or Sewer Department will be a condition of
employment and should they not make appropriate progress
towards obtaining and retaining such licenses it would
be grounds for appropriate action by the City including
dismissal.
I would like to review these recommendations for these Union
demands with you at your September 4, 1984 Agenda Session at
which time I would hope to receive your direction in order
that I might respond to them prior to my attendance at the
. ICMA conference and subsequent vacation. Should you have
any questions regarding any of these demands prior -to that
time, please do not hesitate to discuss them with me.
