As mentioned <br />previously with the addition of a high speed card reader and <br />softward the equipment could be utilized to count ballots at <br />elections. <br />Should purchase of this equipment be financed in the manner <br />outlined above a balance of $17,000 would be available for the <br />hiring of a consultant to assist the City in analyzing its <br />data processing needs and finding a system that will meet <br />those needs. Public Works Director Thatcher and I have been <br />interviewing consultants and we believe that the City will be <br />able to contract with a consultant and remain within budget. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the purchase of a personal computer <br />and software at a cost of $6,816 from the 1985 Finance, Water, <br />Sewer and Elections Budgets. <br />DB/ds <br />
