MC
Realizing that we will probably need a second mower, it was felt
that the John. Deere 930 would find an excellent comparison in
10at tCt_.CC- .i L'rJ ,Qweib Lv u'CLCuuu,V •i,i1i •,ia ucaL drew' •ui '
City's needs. The John Deere 930 has been on the market for two
years and has received very positive reviews and references from
each of the current owners including the City of New Brighton who
are currently in the process of converting all their equipment to
John Deere. In addition to being the low bid, staff would recom-
mend that the John Deere 930 mowing unit and tractor along with
'!:.^.^^t Ja nnrrheaed from
cab, heater and one tv inch vi Gv ..
KULLwfii 3&i2 i. the wmmint of $8,705. The bid price has been
reduced, as it was agreed upon at our meeting that a secona snow
blower unit was not necessary with the John Deere 1050 tractor
purchased next year. With the purchase of the John Deere, the
City would have added flexibility by having two units out broom-
ing or blowing at any one time. It should also be noted that we
did purchase the new John Deere 1050 tractcr from Rortum Sales
two years ago, and our sales and service have proven to of high
quality.
Staff would further recommend that we purchase the 1985 Olathe 48
inch high lift sweeper from MTI Distributing Company in the
amount of $8,395. The Olathe sweeper is the only bid that we
received for the turf sweeper and they are basically a captive
market in the area of self-propelled sweepers with the exception
of Jacobson who did not submit a bid. The turf sweeper would be
used during the spring and fall on an annual basis to clean the
parks up, as well as when we get into high rain periods which '
force us to get behind on our mowing and leave large clumps Of
grass. We would use the turf sweener in place of our current
hand raking of park areas. In addition, the turf sweeper would
oe an ideal vehicle for cleani,g up Ciy Hall Park after large
picnics and community festivals such as 'Festival in the Park',
Greveland Park Picnic, and ocher community activities.
Vie total bid price of $9,705 for the mowing unit and $8,395 for
the turf sweeper makes for a total t0d price of $17,014, which
wculd be $815 over the original 1985 cafital budget. Staff would
recommend that t;,e $815 he ctargeo to contingency, but unfortun-
ately there is non. Consequently, I would recommend that the
$815 be assessed to the recreation activity account as there will
be a direct benefit in all our program areas with the additional
new new equipment. staff wili be it attendance at Monday ever
ings meeting to review this issue in length. Should you have any
questions prior to Morday evening's meeting, feel free to contact
myself directly at 781-30'i5, ext. 120.
RECOMMENDATION: To purchase one John Deere Model 930 front mow-
er/tractor with a 72 inch mowing deck and one cozy cab with heat-
er and one John Deere sweeper with a trades -bin in the
thee 1976 amountOfro Groundsmaster 72 inch rotary mower and
$8,705.00, and one Olathe 48 inch high lift turf sweeper in the
amount of $8,339 for a total purchase price of the two pieces of
equipment In the amount of $17,044 with the balance of $815 com- ,
Ing from the recreation activity account.
BRA/ell
Attachments
