RESOLUTION No, 1948 <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />RESOLUTION INVITING THE CITIZENS Of MOUNLS VIEW TO LIGHT <br />POREHLTGHTS, CANDLRS OR OTHER I.TGHTS FROM DUSK TO DAWN ON <br />NOVEMBER 19 AND 20, 1985 IN HONOR OF WORLD PEACE <br />WHEREAS, the United States and the Soviet Union <br />among all nations lead in the development and accumulation <br />of weapons with the ability to devastate and possibly end <br />human life on Earth; and <br />WHEREAS, the increased speed and accuracy of nuclear <br />weapons on both sides greatly increase the danger that <br />nuclear war will occur; and <br />WHEREAS, scientific evidence suggests Lhat the <br />detonation of even a small number of nuclear weapons already <br />zx:ztcn-ao.;!d .., dr.amati., C1 ..^-3ti- _ha..�ee vhirh <br />likely would end human life; and <br />WHEREAS, President of the United States Ronald Reagan <br />and General Secretary of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev <br />share responsibility for the avoidance of nuclear war, the <br />yeecefu 1, iesGlutron Gf glnbol conf 1i^_t and rhp insr igat ton <br />of point cooperation projects; and <br />WHEREAS, leaders of the National Council of Churches <br />of Christ iii the USA, the Worli Council of Churches and the <br />United States Catholic Conferencc have called upon citizens <br />everywhere to light porchlights, candles and other lights on <br />Novemver 19 and 20, 1985 frrn du,;�. to dawn to openly d'spla� <br />their Desire for world peace. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, HE fT RESOLVED that the City Council <br />of the City of Mounds biew invit?s all citizens to light <br />porchlights, candles or other lights from dusk to dawn on <br />November 19 and 20, 1985 while President Reagan and General <br />Secretary Gorbachev meet in summit in order to openly <br />express their deepest hope that President Reagan and General <br />Secretary Gorbachev will heed the desire of the people <br />around the world to work, raise children, build <br />11 <br />
