MAYOR AND rl'rY roow: it
PEBROARY 22, 1986
PAGE THn
Tn the later case, Corrigan did reduce their price to
$15,800 (we have a budget of 515,000) with an assdrancr from
the local Federal Signal supplier that he could sell our old
sirens for $500 Pact, or a net cost of $14,800. This
proposal does have some limitations that staff feels
prevents its further consideration. They are:
1. All wiring would ba overhead. Installation would
likely occur in areas where all wiring is currently
underground.
2. All NSP and Northwestern Bell rharqes would be
the responsibility of the City. Due to the likely
location of the sirens in this case, Nillview and
Random Parks, these Costs would be significant
partirularly since 3-phase electrical power is not
available on these sites.
3. The City would have to remove the existinq sirens
and poles which could reduce our revenue from their
sale by as much as 508.
Corriqan Electric also submitted a proposal, per staff
request, to relocate our current sirens and install a
Thunderbeam per the bid specs., except for the use of a
Class 2 pole, at a cost of $12,600.00. The acceptance of
this proposal would make funds available to service the.
existing two sirens, which was not part of the bid specs.,
and more than likely allow us to remain under the budget of
$15,090 which was only for relocation and installation.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff would recommend Cocnc:l reject the
original bids and accep the proposal from Corrigan Electric
dated February 20, 1986 to relocate the rity's current
sirens and furnish and install a Federal Sianal Thunderbeam
siren at a cost of $12,600.00.
staff would further request Council authorization to have
our existing two sirens serviced during the relocation
process at a cost not to exceed $2,400.00.
DFP/mjs
