Transaortation Goals and Policies <br />5 - <br />Polic : Desiqn tranaportation facilities to <br />conserve resources and other existing man-made <br />facilities and minimize the total need Por on- <br />qoing public investment. <br />Policy: The local transportation system shall <br />be consistent with the overall needs of the <br />metropolitan area. <br />Polic : Minimize and limit vehicular access <br />onto all types of arterials ensurinq adequate <br />distance between intersections and utilization <br />of appropriate traffic control methods and <br />devicea. <br />Policy; Establish and enforce standards and <br />controle for business and advertising signing <br />and lighting in order to prevent driver distrac- <br />tion and potential hazards. <br />Policy; Local or residential atreets shall be <br />deaigned so as to prevent penetration by through <br />traffic. Major traffic flow shall be properly <br />channeled to coliector and/or arterial streets. <br />Policy: Existing residential streets ahall bP <br />protected from reclassification to more intense <br />uae; eg, collector tn minor arterial. <br />Po11cy: Land use planning along major eTements <br />of the street network ehall be coorflinated in <br />order to: <br />a) Avoid an excesaive number of access <br />points to abutting land. <br />b) Secuse adequate right-of-way for future <br />needa. <br />c) Provide a basis for estimatinq £uture <br />traf ic demands.
