MEMO T0: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: CLERK -ADMINISTRATOR
DATE: AUGUST 12, 1986
SU6JELT: FIRE. INSPECTIONS
During the past several months, City staff members have been
meeting with Fire Chief Fagerstrom to develop an agreement
between the City and the Fire Department regarding the roles
that each organization will play in fire inspections within
the City of Mounds View.
Attached for your information is a Fire Inspection Protocol
which wa3 developed as a result of these meetings and is
being submitted to you for your consideration. Staff feels
that this Protocol clearly outlines the responsibilities of
the Fire Department and the City and will avoid any future
conflicts with respect to the activities of the two
agencies. Also, the Protocol calls for the Fire Department
to perform fire inspections on all occupancies and
operations required to have a permit under the Uniform Fire
Code. The Fire Department would handle the permitting
process and require the payment of the fees pursuant to a
permit fee schedule they established in July of 1986. Also,
C , the Fire Department, in coordination with the City, would
perform inspections on all Type E occupancies, namely
schools.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff would recommend Council approval of
rho arrached Firw inspection Protocol and authorize the
Clerk -Administrator to enter into said agreement with the
Spring Lake Park Fire Department, Inc.
DFP/mjs
Attachment: Fire Inspection Protocol
