.
MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR
0 PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
DATE: AUGUST 18, 1988
SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF HILLVIEW HOCKEY RINK TO GROVELAND PARK
Direction was given to statf to offer a site plan for the
replacement of Hillview hockey boards at Groveland Park.
Measurements were taken and there are three alternatives for the
placement of hockey boards at Groveland Park. Please refer to the
three site plans attached.
The hockey beards fit nicely in all of the alternatives.
Consideration must be given to the placement of the pleasure rink.
Other concerns are:
1. Lighting - One pole with three fixtures will offer light for
one-half of the hockey rink in site plans 31 and #2.
2. Flooding - A large amount of hose will be needed to reach
from the hydrant to the hockey rink especially in site plan A1.
3. Storage - Sorage of the hockey hoards wil_ be required during the
months of March through November. The reservoir seems to be the most
likely place.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval for the November —
March placement of the hockey hoards at Groveland Park, according to
site plan #1 using the present lighting system (having the north
pole lamps turned towards the hockey rink), as a ttial season.
Staff will solicite opinions from users and maintenance staff
during this time regarding placement, lighting and ease of
flooding, etc.
Staff turther recommends the approval of staft's proposal for the
re -development of Hillview Park to be performed as soon as possible
with funds from the Park Improvement Fund 410-120-4705, not• to
exceed $17,000.
MS/SL
Enclosure
G
.W
