6 n
vegetation, may create anoxic conditions which suffocAte
fish.
We will investigate a number of approaches to winter
aeration with emphasis on effio±ency, cost and minimization
of safety problems caused by thin ice. Through coordination
with the City and the Minnesota rNR, we will develop a
recommendation as to the scat appropriate type of aeration.
3. If carp are found to be present in Wetland 893, measures
Cnt be t=hc— to rc=o,.'c t1cm and Bnaure 'iieii• they cannot
later re-enter the wetland from other water bodies. Carp
are bottom feeding vegetarians which destroy submergent
plants and smother the spawning areas of game fish with
ailt. If carp arc present, we will explore with the
Minnesota DNR the possibility of eliminating them with
rotenone. A plan and coat estimate for treatment will be
provided.
If measures are found necessary to keep carp from
entering or re-entering the wetland, we will provide data
and examples of inplace carp barriers and make a
recommendation as to the most appropriate structure. Carp
removal and control has been included in the amnagement plan
budget as an optional task since it is presently unknown
whether carp presently have access to the basin.
4. Since no viable fish population presently exists in the
wetland, future stocking will be necessary to provide a base
population. We will coordinate with the Minnesota DNk and
develop recommendations as to an appropriate stocking mix
and a time frame for future stockings.
Task. 5_Ae:t.hetics Analysis I
0m
A specific analysis or aesthetics will only be
necessary if dredging is undertaken as a fisheries
management measure. This analysis will focus on the
measures necessary within the wetland and at the spoil
disposal site to recreate relatively natural topography and
vegetation. The product of this analysis will be a
conceptual plan for post -dredging restoration. Wildlife
management measures that may be recommended also have an
aesthetic component. While not requiring a specific
aesthetic analysis, any recommendations made as to
enhancement of an upland buffer will be developed with
aesthetics as a major consideration.
