Report of <br />there is a sizeable increase <br />in domestic assaults, in which the Police <br />Attorney <br />are being <br />called. A problem occurs, however, when the case gets <br />to court and the victim decides not to press charges. <br />He explained it is <br />costly for the City, for the amount <br />of time that is put into it in <br />preparing the case, and <br />the courts are getting frustrated also. He added the <br />City is starting to subpoena the victims and is asking <br />for court costs. The $150 to $200 cost does not quite <br />cover the City's expenses, but hopefully will ma_e <br />X <br />people realize this is a serious matter. <br />' <br />Police Chief Ramacher explained that by law, the <br />victims are provided with a card with phone numbers <br />of services that are available to them. It was agreed <br />to discuss this issue <br />further at an agenda session. <br />Councilmember Quick had nc report. <br />17.
