ADMINISTRATIVE NEWSLETTER
PAGE TWO
JANUARY 9, 1989
POLICE CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
In late November of last year I was contacted by the
Business Agent for Teamsters Local 320 representi.na our
Police Officers regarding the settlement of a contract for
1989. I indicated to Mr. Weissenberger that it was my
desire to settle the contract as quickly as possible and,
therefore, made what I felt was a reasonable offer, that
being a 4% wage increase and a $10.00 per month increase in
insurance contribution in exchange for a caah dollar cap on
longevity benefits rather than the current percentage
provided for in the contract. Apparently, our officers have
decided not to accept this offer as the City received
correspondence from Teamsters Local 320 on January 4, 1989
officially notifying us pursuant to the requirements of the
Public Employers Labor Relations Act that they are opening
negotiations on the 1989 contract and indicating to us that
their demands will be forthcoming. Once the demands have
been received, I will be meeting with you to discuss them
and relate to you my recommendations for the handling of
1989 contract negotiations.
MARTIN LUTHER KING HOLIDAY
Monday, January 16th is the State mandated holiday
recognizing Martin Luther King's birthday. Therefore, in
compliance with State Law the City offices will be closed on Qj
that date and the Agenda Session normally held on that
evening will be held on the evening of Tuesday, January
17th.
JURY DUTY
As you all know I will be serving Jury Duty with Ramsey
County Distr4.ct Court on the week of January 9th through
January 13th. At this time I have advised all staff that I
will be unavailable that week unless my status changes and,
therefore, have made minimal obligations for meeting with
any individuals or groups. Don Brager will be handling all
administrative activities that week pursuant to my
direction.
CALENDAR
January 9
ALL DAY JURY DUTY
7:00 p.m.
Council Meeting
January 10
JURY DUTY
January 11
JURY DUTY
10:00 a.m.
Ramsey County
Emergency
Services
