A ADMINISTRATIVE NEWSLETTER ,7A"I11ARY n 19A9 CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW VOL. IX NUMBER 1 ,LAMA LABOR RELATIONS COMMITTEE I was recently appointed by outgoing MAMA President Dave Childs to the :LAMA Labor. Relations Committee. The purpose of this committee is to coordinate all of the labor relations activity of MAMA which includes the negotiation and administration of the annual contract for labor relations services with Labo- Relations Associates (Cy Smythe) and oversight of the three separate subcommittees which are responsible for negotiations of contracts with I.U.O.E. Local 49, the various police unions, and the miscellaneous unions representing employees of MAMA member cities. The activities of the Labor Relations Committee will take on greater significance over the next few years due to changes occurring in the employer union relationship as a result of changes occurring in our society as a whole. This committee ' will be responsible for ushering in those changes and attempting to make them as yalatebli -., possible to both parties while at the same t._r .._ompltshing their purpose which is to represent the bes interest of member cities in labor contract negotiations. CITY HALL IMPROVEMENTS All of the improvements to city Hall contracted for in 1989, namely electrical work and heating system upgrading have been completed and all systems appear to be functioning without the problems we have previously been. experiencing. Towards the end of 1988 the water heater for City Hall, which to the best'of our knowledge has been in place since the original building was constructed in the mid 1960's, began to cease problems requiring its replacement. This work was done and we are no longer finding the boiler roon, in the Police Station full of water on an irregular basis. CITY A^.TORNEYS Due to some recent concerns voiced by.members of the City Council regarding the handling of legal matters by the City's Attorneys I have requested that City Attor:iey Meyers and City Attorney Mark Kerney be present at the January 17 Agenda Session to discuss with you a general policy on the handling of legal metters. City Attorney Kerney has also asked for an Executive Session at that time to discuss with you the Mounds View Business Park property condemnations ar9 the Ernest Lapore case. The request for an Executive Session has been placed on your regular Agenda for the January 9th meeting in order that the Council can duly call the Executive Session and appropriate legal notice provided.
