Super C le
Complete Recycling Services
INFORi'VIaTION
ONLY,
April 19, 1989
Mr. Donald Pauley
a City of Mounds View
iiot 2401 Highway 10
Mounds View, MN 55112
Dear Donald:
I MI
775 Rice Skeet
St. Paul, Minnesota 55117
(612)224.5081
FAX (612) 224-0315
:ou received a letter from me .lust a few days ago describing the
disintegration of the newsprint market. The market still is at
$0 per ton of newsprint and very contracted. Pioneer Paper does
not expect to begin accepting newsprint from anyone until June at
the earliest and Waldorf Paper is accepting only about 500 tons
per month from Super Cycle and a small amount from one other
recycler. Today, we are collecting about 1,200 tons per month of
newsprint for which we have no viable markets.
Unfortunately, we have been forced to burn and landfill some of
the newsprint collected in the last couple weeks. We have stored
as much as we can on our lot and have arranged for some spot
sales. Long-term storage of the newsprint, however, is not an
alternative for Super Cycle, either economically or
realistically. In the long run, it would only increase the
depressed market problem.
Ramsey County staff and Super Cycle have been working very
closely to fired a solution to the ewspaper market problem. The
Ramsey County Staff presented the problem and solution to the
Ramsey County Board on April 18 and an interim solution has been
worked out. Ramsey County in coordination with Washington County
will support the processing of newspaper at Newport and burning
at NSP. The Ramsey County staff is to be commended for their
support and quick action.
Super Cycle will continue to aggressively Pursue newspaper
markets along with expanding current outlets for newspaper.
We are going to be collecting all material as usual arid are
asking the cities to cut back on any public relations planneu
during the nest three months.
We appreciutrr your patience and willingriess to help us weather
Lhe storm.
