MEMO TO: MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS <br />FROM: MARY SAARION, DIRECTOR <br />�• PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY <br />DATE: FEBRUARY 6, 1989 <br />SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF PURCHASE OF LASER PRINTER FOR <br />PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY DEPARTMENT <br />The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department recently purchased new word <br />processing software entitled "Nord Perfect, Version 5.0". This software is <br />quite sophisticated and offers many opportunities for a variety of word <br />processing functions in addition to different fonts (lettering) and graphics. <br />The department currently uses a Diablo printer; which is a letter quality <br />printer using a daisy wheel. This printer worked well with oar last word <br />proceseing sofcNerc because it did not have graphics capabilities and was <br />quite limited In functions. <br />With the new Word Perfect software, out department will have the capabilities <br />of greatly enhancing the quality and professionalism of our City Newsletter, <br />flyers, etc. Unfortunately, our Diablo printer will not aceomodate these <br />fu.ctions. <br />wrr" <br />RECOMMENDATION: Consideration for the purchase of a Hewlit Packard laser jet <br />printer. This is one of the most popular laser printers on the market and <br />sells for $1,920. It is recommended that this purchase be funded from the <br />following accounts: $920.00 from '00-4190-343-000 City brochure and <br />$1,000.00 from the recreation activity account. <br />MS/SL <br />M. <br />
