MEMO TO: Clerk -Administrator and City Council <br />FROM: Steve Rose, Public Works Foreman 16 <br />DATE: August 24, 1987 <br />SUBJECT:- PUBLIC WORKS GARAGE ADDITION AND MODIFICATIONS <br />We are pleased to tell you that we received 8 bids for the above <br />named project on Friday, August 21, 1987 at 1:00 p.m. 1 have <br />discussed bids in general with Mr. Pauley and it was mutually <br />agreed to proceed with a memo of recommendation for your meeting <br />tonight. Due to the length of the project and forseeable fall <br />weather, a savings of two week:, is advisable. Attached for ,your <br />review are the 8 bids received including the deduct alternates <br />and unit prices. <br />The lou bidder, both base bid and omitted alternates, is <br />Cottonwood Construction. Therefure, the bid could rouge between <br />$290,230 end $229,670. 1 have reviewed the pricing of the deduct <br />alternates and •could recommend the following be considered: <br />Alternate A3 - Painting. The deduct price is $4,66U.00. If <br />done by our Staff the savings expected would be 42,000.00 <br />y plus. <br />JJ"" Alternate A4 - "neulatlon and Gypsum Board. The deduct <br />f price is $5,940.00. TIM savings by this work less material <br />fry is expected to be $3,000.UU plus. <br />Alternate AS - Quarry Tile Floor. The deduct price is <br />$2,675.00. The savings is expected to be approximately <br />$ 1 , B 0 U . 0 0 plus. <br />Altercate A6 - Suspended Acoustical Ceiling. The deduct is <br />$850.0U. The savings is expected to be in excess of <br />$400.00. <br />Alternate A7 - Carpet. The deduct price is $840.UO. A <br />ovings of $30U.00 is expected. <br />Alternate M1 - Sewer Connection. The deduct p*ice is <br />%,500. 00. The savings is expected to be $3,500.00. <br />The contract price recommended without Alternates A3 through A7 <br />and M1 is $270,765.00. The deducts add up to $19,465.00. Less <br />the materials cost of $8,465.00, the savings to the City would be <br />$11,000.U0. <br />Two other alternates could be consider..; for deduct if the need <br />to cut costs is necessary. All and M2 would be a total cost cut <br />of $23,100.00. AB is reroofing the existing maintenance building <br />while M2 is fire sprinkling the existing buildirg. Due to the <br />Heed for reroofing in the near future and the low cost of <br />$4,600.00 for sprinkling the existing building, Staff would <br />recommend that they both be included. <br />
