MEMO TO: Clerk -Administrator and City Council FROM: Steve Rose, Public Works Foreman 16 DATE: August 24, 1987 SUBJECT:- PUBLIC WORKS GARAGE ADDITION AND MODIFICATIONS We are pleased to tell you that we received 8 bids for the above named project on Friday, August 21, 1987 at 1:00 p.m. 1 have discussed bids in general with Mr. Pauley and it was mutually agreed to proceed with a memo of recommendation for your meeting tonight. Due to the length of the project and forseeable fall weather, a savings of two week:, is advisable. Attached for ,your review are the 8 bids received including the deduct alternates and unit prices. The lou bidder, both base bid and omitted alternates, is Cottonwood Construction. Therefure, the bid could rouge between $290,230 end $229,670. 1 have reviewed the pricing of the deduct alternates and •could recommend the following be considered: Alternate A3 - Painting. The deduct price is $4,66U.00. If done by our Staff the savings expected would be 42,000.00 y plus. JJ"" Alternate A4 - "neulatlon and Gypsum Board. The deduct f price is $5,940.00. TIM savings by this work less material fry is expected to be $3,000.UU plus. Alternate AS - Quarry Tile Floor. The deduct price is $2,675.00. The savings is expected to be approximately $ 1 , B 0 U . 0 0 plus. Altercate A6 - Suspended Acoustical Ceiling. The deduct is $850.0U. The savings is expected to be in excess of $400.00. Alternate A7 - Carpet. The deduct price is $840.UO. A ovings of $30U.00 is expected. Alternate M1 - Sewer Connection. The deduct p*ice is %,500. 00. The savings is expected to be $3,500.00. The contract price recommended without Alternates A3 through A7 and M1 is $270,765.00. The deducts add up to $19,465.00. Less the materials cost of $8,465.00, the savings to the City would be $11,000.U0. Two other alternates could be consider..; for deduct if the need to cut costs is necessary. All and M2 would be a total cost cut of $23,100.00. AB is reroofing the existing maintenance building while M2 is fire sprinkling the existing buildirg. Due to the Heed for reroofing in the near future and the low cost of $4,600.00 for sprinkling the existing building, Staff would recommend that they both be included.
