MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: CLERK -ADMINISTRATOR
DATE: OCTOBER 9, 1987
SUBJECT: WOODCREST AND SUNNYSIDE DRAINAGE
As you may know, Staff has been in detailed correspondence
with Mrs. Catherine Roth at 5108 Sunnyside Road regarding
the ponding of water in the intersection of Woodcrest and
Sunnyside Roads during significant rainfall avents. Staff
also was contacted by Mrs. Tamara Gunderson, 5101 Sunnyside
Road regarding the same concerns.
As Staff was meeting with City Engineer Boxrud to discuss
various other items, I suggested he meet with me and
Mrs. Gunderson in an effort to explain, to Mrs. Gunderson the
problems in this area. As a result of that meeting and a
site inspection, it was determined that perhaps a problem
existed on this portion of road with respect to the``7.'.
elevation of Woodcrest directly west of Sunnyside which
could be preventing storm water from moving west along
Woodcrest when the storm sewers are filled a:,d prior to the
intersection of Woodcrest and Sunnyside developing a deep
pond. Mr. Boxrud's memorandum, copy attached, indicates
that there is a slight rise to the west of the inter-
section of Sunnyside and Woodcrest on Woodcrest which does
cause the ponding and does not easily allow the conveyance
of water along the road surface of Woodcrest until the pond
has reached its highest point.
Mr. Boxrud further indicates that it would not appear to be
practical at this time to lower the grade of Woodcrest -
Drive, because the resulting grade of the street will be too
flat and would not properly drain. He does suggest that the
best solution to the flooding problem in this intersection
would be the storm sewer solution proposed in the initial
1979 report from SEH.
This matter is being presented to you as an informational
item so that you may be able to respond to concerns of any
residents in that area and in order that you may know what
effort Staff has undertaken to deal with the situation.
DFP/mjs
Attachment:
