<br />NIMLO supports State, Local Legal Center

<br />After months of discussion among rep.
<br />resentatives of various state and local
<br />associations In Washington, an operating
<br />agreement between the National Insti-
<br />tute of Municipal Law Officers (NIhILO)
<br />and the State and Local Legal Center
<br />(SI.LC) has been forged.
<br />In a letter to NIMLO members an.
<br />nouncing the organization's support for
<br />the State and local Legal Center, Roger
<br />Culler, president of NIMLO and city at.
<br />torney of Salt Lake City, Utah, said
<br />"Prior concerns within NIMLO regard-
<br />ing the function. activities, and operilion
<br />nfthe Legal Center have been resolved
<br />isfactodly."
<br />The agreement, the purpose of which
<br />is to improve advocacy by local gnvem-
<br />menLs before the United Stales Supreme
<br />Cool, delineates the responsibilities of
<br />both organizations for assisting muntd.
<br />pal officials in such a way as "to comple.
<br />intent each other's efforts and to avoid
<br />duplication of effort and overlap of activ.
<br />ities."
<br />The agreement Commits both orga-
<br />nizations to coordinating, and possibly
<br />collaborating, on their newsletters, It pro.
<br />vides for representation of NIMLO on
<br />SLI C's Advisory Board and its Legal
<br />Task Porte and a representative of SLLC
<br />to attend NIMLO meetings.
<br />Further, it commits NIMI.O and SLLC
<br />to support each other's fundraising activ-
<br />ities.
<br />In transmitting the signed agreement
<br />from NIMLO to the chairman of the
<br />Board of Trustees of the Academy for
<br />State and Local Government —the parent
<br />organization of which SI.LC is a par—
