NUUN4IEW <br />CIRCULATION DESk' <br />!� (300 Sq. Ft.) <br />1. Functions <br />a. Encourage the patron to seek the service by providing <br />an inviting atmosphere. <br />b. Promote efficient charging and discharging of materials <br />for patrons. <br />c. Permit efficient wort; flow in regard to circulation and <br />paging. <br />d. Encourage patrons to immediately become aware of the <br />library's layout. <br />2. Special Provisions <br />a. Shelves for request books to be located behind the <br />circulation desk. <br />b. Telephone near circulation desk to be conveniently <br />located yet out of the patron and staff traffic <br />patterns. <br />c. Circulation desk to be located near main entrance. <br />d. Circulation desk should be large enough to store <br />supplies, sort books and perform other clerical tasks. <br />e. Electrical and telephone connections for two computer <br />terminals should be provided. <br />f. Public toilets should be visible from the circulation <br />desk. <br />g. Visual supervision of the public areas should be able to <br />be maintained from -the circulation desk. <br />h. A copy machine should be located near an entrance and <br />the circulation desk. <br />i. The'circuletion desk should be located adjacent to the <br />staff workroom. <br />j. The circulation desk should be a comfortable height for <br />staff (36 inches is recommended) and have a lower <br />counter at one end for returns and children's checkout. <br />3. Furniture and Equipment <br />a. Copy machine <br />b. 12-foot circulation desk with comfortable and adjustable <br />stools or chairs. <br />c. S-inch shelving--4 sections (60 linear feet) <br />d.
