MOUNO1Al I EW <br />REFERENCE/INFORMATION AREA <br />(525 sq. ft.) <br />1. Functions <br />a. The Reference/Information area will contain the reference <br />collection, the pamphlet files, indexes, maps and <br />atlases, microform materials and a concentraction of <br />PACs. <br />b. The librarian at the desk will provide assistance with <br />the location, evaluation, and use of all kinds of <br />information and library materials both in and out of the <br />library. <br />2. Special Provisions <br />a. The Reference/Information public service desk should <br />be located so that it is immediately visible to <br />someone coming in the main entrance of the library. <br />b. It should also be in close relationship to the <br />circulation desk. It should be easily seen and easily <br />approached by all library users. <br />c. Should provide for one major public contact stations <br />with a second station which can be used as a walk-in <br />station if needed. <br />d. The desk should be 36" counter height with adjustable <br />chairs/stools. <br />e. The major station should have a telephone and Oynix <br />terminal. <br />f. There should be a terminal for remote database searching <br />with modem and telephone line and a microfiche reader. <br />g. Storage for forms, files, and shelving for books should <br />be designed in conjunction with the library staff. <br />3. Furniture & equipment <br />a. Reference/Information desk (72 sq. ft. 12'x6') <br />b. PAC terminals <br />C. Pamphlet file --should contain 10 legal -sized file <br />drawers. <br />d. Index table--4 linear feet of counter with 1 stool. <br />e. Atlas stand --Standard size atlas case should be <br />provided for atlases and maps. <br />f. Reference book shelving--5o linear feet, 45" high. <br />g. Periodicals--250 linear feet of adjustable metal shelvino <br />open to the public. Includes 175 titles with back issues <br />for 5 years. ' <br />h. Microfilm cabinets--1 unit for microfilm and expansion <br />space. <br />I. Consumer information--6 linear feet at counter height. <br />16 <br />
