MEMO T0: MAYOR AND CITY COUWL
FROM: CLERK-ADMINISTRATC
k DATE: DECEMBER 15, 1987
SUBJECT: JACKSON DRIVE AND GROBERG STREET INTERSECTION
STORM WATER DRAINAGE
It was pointed out to me by Gary Kardell that the City might
wish to consider the extension of a stoad ImandwJacksoner tDriveut in
on the southeast corner of County
as part of the County Road I reconstruction to the
irtersect;nn of Jackson Drive and Groberg Street. As some
of you prcbably know, this intersection frequently becomes
flooded during storm events as a result of the poor drainage
that currently exists there. This poor, drainage occurs
because of the condition of the ditch on the WeSt side of and
Jackson Drive between County Road I and Groberg
Streetthe overland drainage to the west to the Landmark Estates
ponds.
As a result of Gary's suggestions, I requested that City
Engineer Dan Boxrud look at this mattes and
dprovidewith this
recommendations regarding possible way dealing
issue. Mr. Boxrud suggests that the storm sewer line be
extended along the ditch on Jackson Drive with catch basins
being placed en the northeast and southeast corners of the
Cintersection and a possible catch basin on the southwest
corner of the intersection. This would allow the filling of
the ditch on Jackson Drive, which has become a significant
maintenance problem for the City dueit the the
Mweedsgrowth
and
View
the fact that the children residing round area. Also, by
Estates apartments use this as a playg
eliminating the pending of water in the intersection of
Jackson Drive and Groberg Street it would eliminate traffic
hazards experienced during winter months with the
development of ice in the intersection and hopefully, reduce
the deterioration of the pavement that is occurring at this
intersection.
Mr. oxrd the cost of
constrtion
be underu$10,000aand has tsuggested to meeverbally would
that this
work could be performed by the contractor for County Road I
next spring when they return to the site to finish the catch
basin work and paving that remains to be done. I have
attached a rough drawi.ne to Mr. Boxrud's memorandum to show
the approximate drainage area for this intersectiun as well
as the locations of cal-ch basins and storm sewer line.
Should Co,incil agree with the recommendation that this work
could to done; Staff could negotiate a contract with PCI for
the work to be completed next spring with the monies coming
from the City's Storm Water Management Fund. Your direction
in this matter would be appreciated.
DFP/mjs
Attachments:
