Due to the size of our organization and the lack of <br />redundancies within our staff the Finance <br />Department has already been sorely strained by the <br />absence of Shamim for the past 60 days as well as <br />the extended absences of other members of the <br />department for family reasons. Granting an <br />extension to the Leave of Absence would simply <br />exacerbate this problem and strain the remaining <br />limited staff. <br />Shamim has further indicated in her letter that should the <br />City not grant the extension she would be forced to submit <br />her resignation. <br />In view of the aforementioned reasons is my recommendation <br />that the Council determine that Shamim's request for an <br />extension to her Leave of Absence would be unnecessarily <br />burdensome and disruptive to the organization, deny her <br />request and accept her resignation. <br />To begin the process of selecting a replacement as quickly <br />as possible, I would request that Council authorize the <br />advertisement of the position and selection of a finalist <br />for recommendation to the City Council at the earliest <br />possible date. <br />DFP/njs <br />Attachment: <br />LJ <br />
