To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 10086, <br />Authorizing the Purchase of One Dual Purpose Police K9 and to Attend the TAC 21 Patrol Dog <br />Certification Training to Replace K9 Ace who is being Medically Retired. <br /> <br />Council Member Meehlhause stated it has been very valuable for the department to have two K9’s <br />and he supported this purchase moving forward. <br /> <br /> Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br /> <br /> <br />K. Resolution 10087, National Fitness Campaign authorization, acceptance of <br />grant, and committee to fund Sport Court/Studio. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Beeman requested the Council accept a grant for the National Fitness <br />Campaign from Blue Cross/Blue Shield to fund a free outdoor sport court. He explained the City <br />would be required to install the concrete. He noted the total project costs would be $230,000, but <br />the City would be receiving $125,000 in grant funding. <br /> <br />Mayor Lindstrom asked where the free outdoor sport court would be installed. Public Works/Parks <br />and Recreation Director Peterson explained staff was proposing to install the court on City Hall <br />property where the old playground was. He stated the next step would be to have the Parks, <br />Recreation and Forestry Commission review the matter, which would occur on Thursday, April <br />24. <br /> <br />Council Member Smith explained this court was geared for children 14+. Public Works/Parks and <br />Recreation Director Peterson stated this was his understanding. <br /> <br />Council Member Smith questioned if a canopy would be constructed over the sport court. Public <br />Works/Parks and Recreation Director Peterson reported the City had enough of a tree cover in this <br />area that a canopy would not be considered. <br /> <br />Council Member Smith inquired if the sport court could be used in the winter months. Public <br />Works/Parks and Recreation Director Peterson commented he would look into this. <br /> <br />Mayor Lindstrom indicated he supported the City accepting this grant in order to move this item <br />along to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission for further review. <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn supported this action as well. <br /> <br />MOTION/SECOND: Gunn/Meehlhause.
