Mayor and City Council
April 14, 1988
PAGE 2 i 1
end up with Super Cycle as its recycling contractor.
Different modifications to the program may occur at that
time dependent ugon the contractor. Because of the
uncertainty factor, it may be wise to wait until after the
bids go out before the City introduces new modifications to
the program.
I am also looking into the possibility of additional funding
for the program. It is my understanding that the Metropoli-
tan Council does have a grant program for recycling
containers. I will have to look into this further, but i
believe that this would be the best public relations program
the City could have for the recycling program. If the City
could obtain a grant which would pay a portion of the
recycling containers, perhaps the City could fund the
remaining portion. This would really make the program a
City program and obtain the support of more of the
residents.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends to continue resear...ing the alternative
modifications to the proposed recycling program. This
includes the addition of recycling containers, public
relations events and any other possible alternatives open to
the City. Staff further recommends that the work and
support of the City be for the currently proposed program
and that modifications be introduced after the current
program has been in effect for a period of time.
KH/mjs
