The Mounds View Vision
A Thriving Desirable Community
Item No: XX
Meeting Date: February 23, 2026
Type of Business: CB
Administrator Review: ____

City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Don Peterson, Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 10216, Approving the Purchase of One (1) Replacement
Dump Truck
Background:
In 2011, the City purchased a 2011 Freightliner M2106V Single Axle Truck. This dump
truck, unit #445, has been used to perform many routine Public Works duties such as
snow and ice control, hauling of material and debris, and street maintenance activities
such as asphalt paving.

The City has had the practice of replacing dump trucks on a fifteen-year cycle. This 15
year replacement period allows the fleet to be economically maintained without having
major repair bills which are not typically recovered in the trade-in values.

The odometer reading on this unit is 29,537, while odometer reading may be on the low
side the engine hours at 2508 the mileage conversion places the mileage at 150,480.
(Hours x 60 equate to vehicles that operate at various speeds). Combined mileage is
180,071, and equates to roughly 12,000 miles yearly.

Unit #445 has a front wing mounted, making the need to always have the front plow
connected when plowing or scraping the lighter snow falls or scraping the slush from the
roads; unlike the trucks with rear mounted wings as on Unit #448. I thought it needed
explaining

Unit 445 with front wing
