Page 2 Police Records/Evidence Technician <br />• Assists and refers residents to appropriate agencies regarding matters such as victim's services, court procedures, <br />human services, and general information. <br />• Responds to telephone and in -person inquiries in a manner which ensures prompt assistance, confidentiality, and <br />appropriate follow through. <br />• Prepares reports and draft correspondence as requested by Police Department personnel. <br />• Maintains Criminal Justice Records System (CJRS) e-reports and e-charging documents. <br />• Acts as administrator for all BCA systems available to personnel including the portal and launchpad training site for all <br />officers. <br />• Responsible for Data Practices and records retention issues involving the collection, security and dissemination of <br />records. <br />• Processes evidence and property ensuring proper packaging, receipting and that the chain of custody is intact. <br />• Accepts, records, and maintains record system of all physical evidence and lost/found property taken into custody by <br />the Police Department. <br />• Maintains a log on all property that was destroyed, converted, or donated. <br />• Disposes of evidence or lost or found property in accordance with state and department policy regarding property <br />disposition. <br />Other Work Functions (Illustrative Only): <br />• Performs related work as required. <br />Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: <br />• Valid MN Driver's license. <br />• Ability to pass a pre -employment drug test. <br />• Knowledge of police records system and police software programs (i.e. Zuercher). <br />• Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Data Network (CJDN) Certification within six (6) months of employment. <br />• Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Certification within six (6) months of employment. <br />• Ability to obtain Notary Public within six (6) months of employment. <br />• Proficient with computers and modern office practices and procedures. <br />• Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects and meet deadlines. <br />• Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public. <br />• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. <br />• Ability to handle stressful situations. <br />Persons with disabilities: the above is a general listing of job duties.
