Expand the duties and responsibilities of the Summer Playground Supervisor to
provide on-site supervision, make deliveries of materials and equipment and
assume other out of the office duties of the Summer Playground Program as well
as other summer programs such as athletic clinics, classes, etc.
9. Reduce the number of special events such as Safety Camp, Bicycle Safety, Teen
Dance, Sr. Day in the Park, parties, Trips, Holiday of Lights, Holiday Caroling,
Volunteer Brunch, etc. (This is a cost savings because most of these programs are
offered for no fee although sponsorships are usually solicited).
10. Reduce the number of Recreation Brochures from 6 - 4 issues requesting that the
Parks and Recreation Department be responsible for the preparation of only the
Parks and Recreation portion and the Administration assume the City Newsletter
portion of preparation, which will decrease the amount of time spent on
preparation by half. (This would also be a cost savings).
11. Reduce the amount of time staff spends in partnerships and collaboratives which
take staff out of the office for meetings. (This may not be a cost savings).
12. Reduce the number and amount of printed materials such as newspaper ads, flyers, •
resident informational pieces such as the park guide, youth sport manual, activity
newsletters, weekly summer playground newsletters, Festival Updates, etc. (This
will also be a cost savings).
13. Voice Mail will be a tremendous help because whereas staff is only able to answer
two calls at once (one phone for each) the voice mail will be able to take messages
for return calls.
The reduction of services offered by these 13 suggestions would help eliminate time spent and
therefore help fill the void left by the vacant position.
