DOG/GEESE DO-DO: Commissioners discussed the problem with geese droppings
at Silver View Park and also Lakeside Park. Director
Saarion reported information from Lake Restoration
regarding a deterrent - a grape concentrate sprayed on the
grass which is distasteful to geese. Commissioner Gunn
made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Silvis to
continue with the three water treatments and forego the
geese treatment. Motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Starr requested that staff look into plastic
swans as a way of deterring geese if the problem persists.
TRASH CONTAINERS: Staff reported on a request from a resident living in the
Manor Homes abutting Silver View Park path for
replacement of barrel type trash receptacles to be replaced
with decorative trash receptacles. Commissioners discussed
whether or not decorative trash containers along the path fit
into the Park Plan for improvements as well as the
practicality of having decorative trash containers along the
path versus in more "trash" areas such as picnic shelters,
ball fields and playground areas. Commissioners discussed
whether or not the homeowners association would consider
contributing funding for the purchase of a trash container.
After discussion a motion was made. Commissioner Starr
made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Long to
order and put in one decorative trash receptacle.
Motion passed unanimously.
PROGRAM UPDATES: Director Saarion reported that department operations were
going along much better than anticipated, that staff is
discovering new and more efficient and effective ways of
doing things - empowering groups and associations to be
more self-sufficient. Saarion reported that summer
programs will be similar in numbers and variety as other
years. It was also reported that former intern Andy
Singleton began work April 14 and will remain throughout
the summer, with the understanding that Andy will continue
to seek full time work. Mike, Schnur will be an intern
beginning May 27. Another intern is considering this site
for her work.
Director Saarion informed the Commission that the Lion's Club had
assumed the leadership of the Festival parade and that the Festival
Committee was assuming more of the leadership of the Festival
activities. This removes much of the responsibilities from
Department staff and makes for a more community orientated •
