"THIS IS IT"
• PARKS, RECREATION & FORESTRY
PARKS:
Woodcrest park building is being repaired. New doors and windows were ordered and we are
awaiting delivery. In addition the old siding was removed and new siding replaced. Boards and
beams have been replaced as warranted. NSP has replaced the downed electrical pole of
Woodcrest Drive which feeds Woodcrest Park building with power. Community gardens at
Woodcrest are growing!
Ramsey County is in process of improvements to the compost facility at Ardan Park. To date
they have paved the entry and exit, have removed the old fence and installed light fixtures.
Park grassy areas that are not sprinkled are turning brown as the drought continues. While grass
will become dormant and return to green with rain, use is hard on any grass play areas such as
ballfields. On the other hand, dormant grass takes less mowing which frees up time for
completing other parks tasks and projects that seem to slip when mowing is in high gear.
RECREATION:
• Seasonal employee Andy Singleton has accomplished preparation of the City Newsletter for print.
This is his first attempt at this project and he has done an excellent job. The camera-ready
original was delivered to the printing company Friday with delivery of newsletters next Friday.
The Irondale Track Boosters Club has expressed interest in delivering the newsletter this time.
Several programs and activities began this week with the majority beginning next week.
Colorguard, Babysitting Class and Tiny Tot programs began this week. Summer playground
programs, Fabulous Fours, teen athletic activities and Swimming instructions begin Monday.
Leader training and distribution of equipment and materials has kept office staff jumping this
week.
The Lion's Club sponsored a Sr. Day in the Park at Silver View Park this past Tuesday. The
event was very successful, providing a great picnic lunch to area seniors. Silver View Park shelter
was appreciated since the day was a bit rainy and cool. Parks Workers set-up and took down
tables and chairs and assured that the park was in tip top shape for this event. The School District
Senior Advisory Council has also reserved Silver View Picnic Shelter for their annual picnic
event. It is a popular spot for group picnic events.
Festival Committee met last week and all committees seem to be all set. Four weeks until Festival
and they will be ready!! The Festival Committee members were disappointed to hear that Dan
Hall decided to cancel the Street Dance. He explained that the Mermaid lost money on the street
dance last year and he didn't feel that it would be feasible to sponsor the activity this year
