She said that her daughter who is <br /> entering 4th grade and her friends were looking forward to participating in <br /> the basketball clinic, but this summer it did not include their ages. Director <br /> Saarion replied that it would be noted and staff would be sure to require <br /> that coaches include younger girls in the summer basketball clinics. <br /> Director Saarion also reported decreasing numbers of elementary age <br /> participants in summer playground programs, but increasing numbers of <br /> requests for older ages (11-15 years) for a summer playground sort of <br /> program. The specialized programs for middle age school students like <br /> softball, baseball, basketball that have been offered are not popular. It was <br /> suggested that an afternoon sporting program be offered where boys and <br /> girls can come and play a variety of activities - a sort of playground <br /> program for sporting activities for 11-15 year olds. Staff thought this a <br /> good idea and will plan for next summer. <br /> NEXT MEETING: Next meeting will be held Thursday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. <br /> ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Silvis made a motion seconded by Commissioner Starr <br /> to adjourn the meeting.
