§ 38.004 WELCOMING COMMUNITY. <br />(A) The City of Mounds View values the diversity of its residents and recognizes that people <br />of differing cultural backgrounds, languages, identities, experiences, and perspectives <br />contribute to the strength of the community. <br />(B) The City affirms that all residents are valued members of the Mounds View community <br />and should feel welcome in accessing city facilities, parks, programs, meetings, and <br />services. <br />(C) Nothing in this section shall be interpreted to prohibit lawful enforcement of state or <br />federal law by authorized agencies or to limit cooperation required by law. <br />§ 38.005 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE. <br />The Community Engagement Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the City <br />Council regarding matters relating to inclusion, accessibility, public participation, equitable <br />access to city services, and community belonging. <br />The committee may: <br />(A) Recommend policies or practices that improve community participation and access; <br />(B) Identify barriers to civic engagement; <br />(C) Encourage education and awareness relating to human rights and respectful community <br />engagement; and <br />(D) Provide recommendations to the City Council regarding implementation of this chapter. <br />§ 38.006 COMPLAINT REFERRAL. <br />Nothing in this chapter creates a private cause of action or local enforcement authority for <br />discrimination claims. Individuals alleging unlawful discrimination may pursue remedies <br />available under the Minnesota Human Rights Act (Minnesota Statutes Chapter 363A), <br />applicable federal civil rights law, or another lawful authority. <br />Complaints may be referred to the Minnesota Department of Human Rights or applicable <br />federal agency. <br />§ 38.007 INTERPRETATION. <br />This chapter shall be interpreted and applied in a manner consistent with the <br />Minnesota Human Rights Act, Minnesota Statutes Chapter 363A, and applicable federal <br />law.
