29
Annette Perkins
PO Box 356
Platteville
St. Anthony Plan Commission and City Council
3301 Silver Lake Road
St. Anthony, MN 55418-1699
Re: Zoning request to allow a double sided electronic sign on Stinson Blvd.
I am writing in opposition to the Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment to allow a double
sided electronic message sign in from of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School located at
2739 Stinson Boulevard. In August of 2013 1 purchased a home at 2401 St. Anthony
Blvd. Across the street from St Charles Borromeo Church. My daughter, Andrea
McNett presently lives in the house.
My objections to the zoning request are that a double sided electronic sign is not in
keeping with the area because;
1. Both sides of Stinson in that area are residential with single family homes, an
electronic sign is not in keeping with a residential area.
2. Your comprehensive plan identifies Stinson Blvd. in that area as a parkway, an
electronic sign is not it keeping with the character of a parkway.
3. Looking out our front window we would have an unobstructed view at all times of
the sign which I'm sure would lower our property value.
St. Anthony's city code states, "(3) Prohibit signs whose location, size, type, illumination
or other physical characteristics negatively affect the environment and where the
communication can be accomplished by means having a lesser impact on the
environment and the public health, safety and welfare." There are less obtrusive ways
to communicate than with an electronic sign that could be lit up from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.,
example, church bulletin, internal digital signs, the internet. The church and school have
been going strong for over 70 years without a digital sign, why one now?
It is my hope that you will turn down the request for the digital sign and maintain the
inherent beauty of Stinson Blvd and St. Anthony Blvd.
Sincerely,
Annette Perkins
